What Is Exempt From GDPR?
UK GDPR only applies to information about living people who can be identified. So anonymous figures, such as how many people came to a service, aren’t covered, and nor is information about people who have died.
Purely personal or household use is exempt too, like your own address book. The Data Protection Act 2018 also has narrow exemptions for things such as preventing crime and legal advice.
Churches themselves aren’t exempt, whatever their size. Being a charity or a small congregation doesn’t change that. But many churches don’t need to pay the ICO’s yearly data protection fee, thanks to an exemption for not-for-profit bodies.
