The right checks for where your church is

Say where your church is when you sign up. Churches in England and Wales record DBS checks, including the Update Service. Northern Ireland churches record AccessNI checks.

In Scotland you record PVG scheme membership and Basic disclosures, and PVG renewals are set five years ahead, as the law now says.

Renewals before they lapse

Choose how often your denomination asks you to renew, and each check gets its renewal date. The dashboard warns you two months before, so nobody’s check runs out while they’re still serving.

Only the people you choose can see them

Check records are criminal record information. Only administrators and the team members you mark as safeguarding leads can open them. Leads must use two-step sign-in, and every visit is logged.

Nothing you shouldn’t keep

There’s nowhere to upload a certificate. You record the role, the type of check, the certificate number, the date and your decision, which is what government guidance says to keep.

Questions churches ask

Does it carry out DBS checks?
No. Checks go through your denomination, diocese or umbrella body. You record the result here and see when it’s due again.
Can we keep copies of certificates?
No, and there’s nowhere to upload one. You keep only the few details government guidance allows.
We’re in Scotland. Does it handle PVG?
Yes. Choose Scotland when you sign up, or later in your church details, and you record PVG membership and Basic disclosures instead of DBS checks.
Who can see safeguarding records?
Administrators, and team members you mark as safeguarding leads. Leads must use two-step sign-in, and every look is logged.
Does it cost extra?
No. Safeguarding records are included in every plan.
